1. East Texas Arboretum

The East Texas Arboretum is a peaceful, scenic place to spend an afternoon. There are more than 100 acres of trees, wooded beauty, and outdoor gardens with many types of plants from all over the world. For instance, there is a Japanese garden that has been designed so visitors can experience walking through Japan without having to leave East Texas!

Other highlights include a wetland nature preserve teeming with wildlife such as armadillos, white-tailed deer, coyotes, and foxes. The site is also home to the first Native American mandala in North America.

2. Trace Trails

The Trace Trails is an excellent place for hiking because it’s near the major city but in an area that still has beautiful greenery and natural beauty. This site offers some easy trails with short distances or moderate hikes, perfect if you want to spend less time walking and more time exploring. There’s plenty of wildlife here, too – deer, coyotes, and armadillos have all been spotted on these trails!

The views around this part of North Texas can’t be beaten either; there are even spots where you’ll see panoramic glimpses of Lake Tawakoni State Park from high atop your hike.

3. Carl D. Frentress Hickory Loop

This site is a great 1-mile loop located on the East Texas Arboretum grounds. The trail starts at the picnic area and is an easy hike that can be made as long or short as you want it to be. You’ll find plenty of shade from trees along this trail, which makes for a nice place to escape when summer heats up. And if you’re lucky enough to visit during wildflower season, then your hiking experience will be even more spectacular!

4. Lindsey Park

Lindsey Park is a beautiful place for a family hike. The park has both shaded and sunny spots to explore, making it perfect for all weather conditions. It has two trails that loop around the lake; one paved and one dirt path surrounded by trees. In addition, there are plenty of benches at various points along these paths where you can take in nature’s beauty as you sit down to rest or think about what adventures await ahead!

The park also features an outdoor pavilion with picnic tables under shade sails where families enjoy picnics together during warmer months.
