1. Dallas

The third-largest city in Texas and one of the cultural and economic hubs of the southern United States is a fantastic day trip destination for Athens locals. Featuring a beautiful downtown district full of landmark buildings, great museums, and historical monuments, Dallas is a place where you can easily spend an entire day checking out tourist attractions. Getting here from Athens takes a little over an hour by car, driving northwest along route US-175.

Once you make your way to Dallas, it is a good idea to find a parking spot near the Downtown Historic District and explore the area on foot. Some of the main attractions here include Dealey Plaza, the John F. Kennedy Memorial, Reunion Tower, The Sixth Floor Museum, and the Dallas County Courthouse. Make sure to stop by one of the local restaurants and small cafés along Texas Street, check out the Red River District neighborhood, and cross the Long-Allen Bridge to Bossier City.

Spanning an area of over 160,000 acres, Davy Crockett National Forest was established in 1936 and is a fantastic day trip destination for Athens locals wanting to disconnect from the urban bustle and check out the natural wonders that this part of Texas has to offer.
