1. Dallas

The third-largest city in Texas and one of the cultural and economic hubs of the southern United States is a fantastic day trip destination for Athens locals. Getting here from Athens takes a little over an hour by car, driving northwest along route US-175.

Once you make your way to Dallas, it is a good idea to find a parking spot near the Downtown Historic District and explore the area on foot. Some of the main attractions here include Dealey Plaza, the John F. Kennedy Memorial, Reunion Tower, The Sixth Floor Museum, and the Dallas County Courthouse. 2. Shreveport
